Industrial AHD cameras

skoopia offers numerous AHD cameras and TVI cameras, primarily to the industrial camera market, but also sees beneifts for the medical camera market. 

As mentioned in the industrial and medical camera section, AHD or TVI is the most easy transition from CVBS cameras (NTSC cameras, PAL cameras) to cameras supporting higher resolution (industrial HD cameras, industrial Full-HD cameras, medical cameras (HD and Full-HD) and intrinsically also alows for 4K AHD cameras or TVI cameras).

The key reasons to go for AHD or TVI:

  • Superior image quality and resolution compared to CVBS

  • CVBS cabling is likely requiring no change (no engineering required).

  • Identical latency as CVBS (within frame)

  • Similar pricing if compared to CVBS

So, intrinsically, AHD and TVI provide superior image quality and resolution at "CVBS" pricing, while all other parameters remain identical.

Also note a complementing partner PS (www.ps-gmbh.de) supplies video amplifiers for AHD, providing excellent image quality over extreme long distances. The video amplifiers can be attached at the camera side (also a 14mm x 14mm PCB board: transmission) and/or at the receiving / DVR/grabber side (filtering and amplifying, larger PCB board: receiving), available for both twisted pair and coaxial cable.

skoopia 21C14AT is a unique camera. It is the first in class camera providing Full HD output based on a 14mm x 14mm single board.

As can be seen from the above test results (made with lux 80 lighting), the camera continues to perform even at very high temperatures. Although noise starts to increase above 60°C, the camera remains operational only showing a true color impact at 95°C, but still providing color images at 105°C.

Industrial AHD DVR 

 

skoopia offers numerous industrial AHD camera and TVI camera solutions, primarily targeted at markets in which latency should be as low as possible, typically in an evironment in which the camera image is used to guide or steer a remote tool (medical cameras as well as industrial cameras). 

In such environments, the highest costs are the users of the industrial camera system or medical camera system. Making them more productive will -in most cases- easily offset the investment of a more advanced solution. 

Making the operator of such industrial camera or medical camera systems more productive, is the key focus of skoopia. For this reason, skoopia also markets an industrial DVR capable of recording AHD, TVI and CVBS, as well as industrial monitors.  

Industrial cameras or Medical cameras have so far seen limited adoption of AHD or TVI. Reasons are threefold: 

  • lack of direct control signals, allowing the operator to switch a camera parameter with 1 direct button.

  • limited awareness of the AHD and TVI video standard in Europe and North America.

  • lack of industrial DVR or medical DVR with special production features, required for the operator/user of such systems.

In the Industrial AHD camera section on this website, the key benefits of skoopia industrial AHD cameras are described.

Although AHD has signficant cost benefits, particularly if CVBS cabling is present, and it is a technology fully adopted in Asia in several key camera applications (security, automotive), Europe and North America have seen only very limited adoption, although the adoption in automotive is catching up. 

Here, we describe the key benefits of an industrial DVR as well as the benefits of the combination of skoopia industrial cameras setup together with an industrial DVR. skoopia has dedicately invested in an industrial DVR supporting AHD, TVI and CVBS to make the transition for OEM customers from CVBS to Full-HD less cumbersome.  

The AHD signal can be captured via a stand alone unit, called digital video recorder (DVR) or via a grabber card that is inserted in a personal computer.

Industrial AHD DVR versus Industrial AHD grabber

AHD DVRs or TVI DVRs, most of them even capable of recording AHD, TVI, CVI and CVBS are a near 100% focused on security applications. Typical security recorders can record from 4 channels up to 128 channels AHD, TVI, CVBS and/or intermixed.  Such recorders in combination with AHD cameras form a very cost efficient solution for camera based security, particularly if existing cabling (often CVBS) can be used.  Setting up such security DVRs is cumbersome, often requires a dedicated specialist, browsing through numerous options that can be selected from the hundreds of options available. Setting up such DVRs takes time, but once installed, they record with the identical settings for years. 

skoopia focuses on operator vision assisted solutions, in which the operator uses the video coming from the industrial camera as a guidance for his next action. His actions need to be efficient (no browsing through options) and effective (single button) to respond quickly to the observations made. The operator typically only has 1 video stream available, and changes settings plural times per day (sometimes even several settings per minute). 

Key functions need to be directly accessible and easy to understand (often the same OEM equipment is used by several operators on different times). As operators work in often quite different circumstances (outdoor, limited time window to complete), so also different operating conditions apply (e.g. touch screen as a mouse is not possible, water proof, sunlight readability, on a distance). 

Industrial AHD DVR with overlays

skoopia has as a first step - introduced an Industrial AHD DVR, as the expected production volumes of such units -primarily due to the substantially lower investment required from the OEM per install (not just price of DVR versus grabber card, but also the investment in PC hardware) are likely significantly higher, while only a limited amount of users/operators will require same system usage of value added software.

 

Moreover, as the Industrial AHD DVR offers the ability to retrieve images directly via FTP, the industrial AHD DVR could also be used as a "preprocessing unit" in front of an industrial PC with lower performance requirements.
